Body Contouring Faq

What Is Body Contouring?

Body contouring is a way to reshape areas of the body after weight loss or to remove excess fat. It includes both surgical procedures like a tummy tuck or liposuction, and non-invasive treatments with lasers, ultrasound, and radiofrequency. Body contouring is not a substitute for proper diet, weight loss, and exercise, but it can be helpful in removing stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight loss and exercise strategies. Rejuvenate Laser Center offers laser body contouring. Unlike surgical procedures, which carry risks like bleeding and infections, a non-invasive body contouring treatment has few side effects.

Am I a Good Candidate for Body Contouring?

One of the most important aspects of body contouring is that the patient should have realistic expectations. From a health standpoint, good skin and muscle tone make for better results. The ideal patient is within the “normal” weight range for his or her height but has one or more areas of fatty deposits that remain after weight loss. Women are particularly likely to have this problem, as they tend to have more subcutaneous fat in areas like the thighs or hips than men.

What Can I Expect?

Laser therapy can break down fat cells, which are then absorbed; waste from the process is gradually excreted by the body’s normal mechanisms. Low-level laser therapy emits energy into body tissues. The fat cells absorb the energy, which stimulates the cells and “melts” the fat. The devices are attached in a belt-like fashion over the area to be treated. The procedure consists of cycled heating and cooling in the treatment area to minimize discomfort but some patients report a burning or stinging sensation. Two to three sessions are usually required.

What About Aftercare?

Recovery time is minimal with non-invasive body contouring. Patients typically resume their normal activities the same day. Some patients may experience redness or bruising in the treated area that lasts a few hours. Although the procedure is quick (one or two hours at most), it takes time for fat bulges to be absorbed; most patients will not see full results for about two to three months.
